Robert Saleh Opens His Titans Tenure Against New York

Tennessee fired Brian Callahan on October 13, 2025 at one and five. Mike McCoy went two and nine as interim. On January 22 the Titans hired Saleh away from San Francisco, where he had gone back to coordinating the defense, and signed him for five years.

Saleh calls the Tennessee defense himself and brought in former Giants head coach Brian Daboll to run the offense. In New York, Aaron Glenn is doing the mirror image in year two: head coach, defensive play caller, with Frank Reich installing a new offense around Garrett Wilson and first round rookies Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr.

The Trade That Sent Jermaine Johnson to Nashville

The Jets agreed in February to send edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II to Tennessee for nose tackle T'Vondre Sweat. The deal became official when the league year opened on March 11. Saleh drafted Johnson in the first round in 2022, so the reunion was the point of it.

Johnson leaves four New York seasons behind: 47 games, 131 tackles, 13 sacks and 20 tackles for loss, with a Pro Bowl 2023 of seven and a half sacks and a torn Achilles in Week 2 of 2024. He is not dressing the week up. "The Jets are just another thing in the way," he said.

Sweat travels the opposite direction. He is six foot four and 366 pounds, and New York acquired him to hold the middle of a run defense that needed the weight. Both linemen open the season against the club that drafted them.

Jets vs Titans Injuries and Week 1 Lineup Notes

Breece Hall strained his groin on a non contact play on August 17. Aaron Glenn said on September 8 that Hall would return to practice this week and was trending toward playing Sunday. Braelon Allen has taken the first team carries since.

Edge rusher Joseph Ossai is week to week with a foot injury, which thins a New York pass rush that already traded away a starter.

Tennessee has a hole of its own at linebacker. Cedric Gray, who piled up 164 tackles last season, entered concussion protocol after a UTV accident and is expected to miss Jets vs Titans. Second round rookie Anthony Hill Jr. is the likely replacement.

The Titans also open with a rebuilt interior line, Austin Schlottmann at center and fifth round rookie Fernando Carmona at right guard. New York named six captains on September 3: Geno Smith, Joe Tippmann, Demario Davis, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Harrison Phillips and Isaiah Williams.

The Last Opening Day at Nissan Stadium

The Titans are playing their final season on the riverfront. The 1999 building comes down once its replacement is finished next door.

That replacement is an enclosed Nissan Stadium of roughly 60,000 seats, costing about $2.1 billion. Its ETFE roof was fully installed by August, two of the four construction cranes are already down, and seat installation has begun. Tennessee expects the keys in February 2027, and the official project updates track each month of the build.
