Is There a Pro Bowl Game in 2027?
No. In August 2026 the NFL announced it will no longer stage an AFC vs. NFC Pro Bowl game. The flag football Pro Bowl Games played in San Francisco on February 3, 2026, were the last edition.
Being named to the Pro Bowl still counts. The league turned the selection itself into the main event, with a bigger roster reveal, a lasting mark on the player’s uniform and an in-person celebration for the whole class.

What Changed in the New Pro Bowl Format
- No more game. There is no AFC vs. NFC contest and no skills competition to watch on TV.
- 88 players, no replacements. Earlier rosters grew every year as alternates replaced injured players and those on Super Bowl teams. Now only the 88 players first selected are Pro Bowlers.
- Same voting. Fans, players and coaches still pick the roster, with each group counting equally.
- A bigger reveal. The roster announcement in late December becomes a showcase across NFL, team, social and TV partner channels.
- Lasting recognition. Pro Bowl players get a visible mark on their uniform and a personalized, one-of-one Topps trading card.
- An in-person celebration. The 2027 class and their families are brought together during Pro Bowl weekend in Los Angeles.
The details come from the NFL’s own announcement on NFL.com.
Why the NFL Ended the Pro Bowl Game
The league said the change came from talks with players about what they value most. For players, the honor is being chosen by peers, coaches and fans as one of the best at their position, not playing an exhibition. Interest in the game itself had faded: the 2024 Pro Bowl Games drew the event’s lowest TV rating since 2006, even after the switch to flag football.
Cutting replacements also makes the title mean more. A Pro Bowl nod now marks one of the original 88, not an alternate added in January.
How Pro Bowl Voting Works
Fans, NFL players and NFL coaches each count for one third of the result. Fans vote online at the NFL’s Pro Bowl page, on team websites, on X and in Madden NFL Mobile, and can vote as many times as they like.
The league has not announced the voting dates for the 2026 season yet. For comparison, the last cycle ran like this:
| Step | Last season’s date |
|---|---|
| Fan voting opened | Thursday, November 27, 2025 (Thanksgiving) |
| Fan voting closed | Monday, December 15, 2025 |
| Players and coaches voted | Friday, December 19, 2025 |
| Roster announced | Tuesday, December 23, 2025 |
Voting has opened on Thanksgiving in recent years, so expect the 2026 vote around late November. We will add the exact dates here as soon as the NFL announces them.
When Is the Pro Bowl Roster Revealed?
The 88-player roster will be revealed in late December 2026, during the final weeks of the regular season. That leaves time for the selections to be part of the playoff race conversation before the 2027 NFL playoffs begin.
Pro Bowl Weekend in Los Angeles
Los Angeles hosts Super Bowl LXI, and the 2027 Pro Bowl class will gather there during the traditional Pro Bowl weekend for an in-person celebration of the players and their families. The NFL said more details on the event, the roster reveal and the player recognition will come later.
Flag football stays part of the week. Events across Pro Bowl weekend and Super Bowl week in Los Angeles will include a showcase of the professional flag football league the NFL is building with TMRW Sports.
Flag Football and the 2028 Olympics
Flag football makes its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. More than 200 NFL players from 25 or more countries have said they are interested in playing for their national teams, and USA Football will start acclimation camps for U.S. hopefuls in early 2027.
