The Chicago Bears pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in franchise playoff history Saturday night at Soldier Field. They erased an 18-point deficit to beat the Green Bay Packers 31-27 in the NFC Wild Card round.
Caleb Williams threw for 361 yards and two touchdowns to lead the rally. The Bears trailed 21-3 at halftime but scored 25 points in the fourth quarter alone.
How the Game Unfolded
Green Bay dominated the first half behind Jordan Love's three touchdown passes. The Packers led 21-3 and looked ready to cruise to victory.
The Bears finally found the end zone in the fourth quarter. D'Andre Swift scored on a 5-yard run to cut the lead to 21-16. The defense then forced a punt to give Williams another chance.
Matthew Golden caught a 23-yard touchdown for Green Bay to push the lead back to 27-16. Brandon McManus missed the extra point. That missed kick proved costly.
Williams responded with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Olamide Zaccheaus. He then hit Colston Loveland for a two-point conversion to make it 27-24.
McManus missed a 44-yard field goal with under three minutes left. The Bears took over at their own 35-yard line.
Williams led a quick drive down the field. He found DJ Moore for a 25-yard touchdown with 1:43 remaining. The Bears had their first lead of the game at 31-27.
Love drove the Packers into Chicago territory on the final possession. A muffed snap on the last play forced a desperation throw that fell incomplete.
Key Performances
Williams set a Bears playoff record with 361 passing yards. He completed 24 of 48 passes despite throwing two interceptions.
Colston Loveland caught eight passes for 137 yards. Rome Odunze made a crucial 27-yard catch on fourth down during the final touchdown drive.
Love finished 24 of 46 for 323 yards and four touchdowns. Romeo Doubs had eight catches for 124 yards and one score.
McManus left four points on the field with a missed extra point and field goal. Cairo Santos made all six of his kicks for Chicago.
Historic Achievement
The Bears won their first playoff game since 2010. They snapped a 15-year postseason drought in dramatic fashion.
This marks the largest comeback in Bears playoff history. First-year head coach Ben Johnson earned his first playoff victory.
Williams now has seven comeback wins in the final two minutes this season. That ties an NFL single-season record.
What's Next
The Bears advance to the NFC Divisional Round. They will host either the Los Angeles Rams or Philadelphia Eagles next weekend at Soldier Field.
The Packers season ends with their second straight Wild Card round exit. Green Bay finished 9-7-1 after losing four straight games to close the regular season.
