The non division draw pairs the AFC East and the NFC West, so Buffalo, Miami, New England and the Jets arrive alongside Arizona, Seattle, San Francisco and the Rams. Houston, Baltimore and Tampa Bay complete the slate. Three of the first five games are at SoFi Stadium. The travel piles up late, with Tampa Bay, Las Vegas, Miami and Denver across the closing six weeks.
Chargers Week 1: Cardinals at SoFi Stadium
Kickoff is 4:25 PM ET on Sunday, September 13, which is 1:25 PM in Los Angeles. CBS has the broadcast. Local radio is KFI 640 AM, with simulcasts on 103.9 FM, 89.3 FM and 101.9 FM HD3.
This is the first look at the McDaniel offense in a real game. Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt both return at tackle after season ending injuries in 2025, which matters more than any scheme change. Herbert was sacked six times in a single game last year behind a patched line.
Arizona arrives through the NFC West rotation, so this is a rare meeting. The Cardinals also share a time zone, which spares the Bolts the early body clock problem that shows up in Weeks 3, 13 and 16.

The opener in Houston was the cleanest showing. The two SoFi Stadium dates against the co tenants both went the other way, though Quentin Johnston closed the finale with a 65 yard touchdown catch. Preseason results carry no weight in the standings.

CBS carries half the season, which is normal for an AFC club. Out of market viewers need NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV or YouTube Primetime Channels. It covers only the Sunday afternoon windows, so the three national games are not included. Those are on ESPN, NBC and Prime Video instead.

Six of the nine road games take the Chargers out of the Pacific zone. Three of those are 10:00 AM body clock starts in Buffalo, Tampa Bay and Miami, the hardest travel spots on the calendar.

Clocks fall back on Sunday, November 1, the same day as the Week 8 game against the Rams. Everything from Week 8 on is standard time. Arizona does not change its clocks, so viewers there match Pacific from November 1 and Mountain before it.

Week 8: A Road Game Inside Their Own Stadium
The oddest line on the 2026 slate is Week 8. The listing reads “at Los Angeles Rams” and the venue reads SoFi Stadium. Both clubs share the building, so one is designated the road team each year even though neither travels.
That label counts. It is why the Chargers hold 8 home games and 9 road games. Every AFC club carries that split in 2026 because the NFC hosts the extra interconference game this cycle. On the day, the Rams control the locker rooms, the signage and the end zone paint. The upside is zero travel, and it lands the week after the bye.
SoFi Stadium and Super Bowl LXI
SoFi Stadium lists 70,240 seats and expands by about 30,000 for major events. It is the NFL’s first indoor outdoor venue, with a translucent canopy that shades the field while the sides stay open. Chargers crowds run above the listed number. The club averaged 73,411 at home in 2025, seventh best in the league.
The building hosts Super Bowl LXI on February 14, 2027. It is the first Super Bowl played on Valentine’s Day and the first carried by ESPN and ABC. A deep January run would end in the Chargers’ own stadium. The Rams did exactly that at SoFi in February 2022, so the path is not theoretical.
For home games the club asks fans to be seated 15 minutes before kickoff for the Charge Up to Kickoff sequence. The NFL clear bag policy applies at every gate.
The AFC West Drought Hanging Over 2026
The Chargers have not won the AFC West since 2009. Kansas City and Denver have split all 16 titles since. That is the number this season is measured against, not another wild card berth.
Last season made the gap look strange. Los Angeles started 5-0 inside the division for the first time in franchise history and swept Kansas City for the first time since 2013. Then it lost at home to Houston in Week 17 and in Denver in Week 18, finished 5-1 in the AFC West, and fell to the seventh seed.
The 2026 layout offers another clean shot. Three of the six division games are at SoFi Stadium. Denver visits in Week 5, Kansas City visits in Week 17, and the season ends in Denver. The last two weeks come against the only two clubs that have won this division in 16 years.
Roster and Coaching Notes for 2026
The initial 53 set on August 30 carried 26 players on offense, 25 on defense and two specialists. Trey Lance won the backup quarterback job in camp.
The offensive line is the story. Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt both return from season ending 2025 injuries at tackle. The interior is entirely new, with Kayode Awosika at left guard, rookie Jake Slaughter at center and Cole Strange at right guard. Slaughter moved to center after Tyler Biadasz tore an ACL on August 18.
On defense, Khalil Mack returned in free agency for year 13 with 113 career sacks. Tuli Tuipulotu led the team with 13 sacks last season, fifth most in the NFL, and first round pick Akheem Mesidor joins that edge rotation. Derwin James anchors the secondary after back to back Second Team All Pro seasons at slot corner. Kicker Cameron Dicker made his first Pro Bowl last year and is the most accurate kicker in NFL history.
Chargers Bye Week 2026
The Chargers are off in Week 7, the weekend of October 25. It follows a six game opening stretch that already includes Denver and Kansas City. They return against the Rams, then Houston, then a Monday night trip to Baltimore. From Week 13 they play four of six on the road.
