The Cleveland Browns went shopping in Baltimore. After a 5-12 season and a second straight last place finish in the AFC North, the club let Kevin Stefanski go and hired Todd Monken, the man who had spent three years running the Ravens offense. Then it hired a Ravens assistant to run its own.

Cleveland Hired Baltimore’s Offense

Todd Monken is the new head coach on a five year deal, his first job in charge of an NFL team. He arrives from Baltimore, where his play calling helped Lamar Jackson to an MVP season. Kevin Stefanski left after six years and four losing seasons.

The coordinators are new as well. Travis Switzer takes the offense after nine seasons on the Ravens staff, so two of the three men shaping Cleveland’s attack learned it in the same building. Mike Rutenberg runs the defense, arriving from Atlanta with fourteen years of NFL coaching behind him, and Byron Storer handles special teams.

That matters twice a year in particular. Baltimore visits in Week 6 and Cleveland returns the trip in Week 16, which puts Monken across the field from his old employer in both halves of the season.

Only the Week 18 row is still blank. The league fixes that date after Week 17 ends, and flexible scheduling can also move a Sunday afternoon game to a night slot later in the year.

Fifteen Kickoffs at the Same Time

Read that table again and the pattern jumps out. Fifteen of the seventeen games start at 1:00 PM ET. Week 4 is the one dated exception, a Thursday night meeting with Pittsburgh on Prime Video, and the Week 18 finale has no time assigned yet.

No Sunday night game. No Monday night game. No late afternoon window at all. For a Cleveland supporter this is the simplest calendar in the league to keep track of, and for anyone travelling to a game it removes almost every planning question.

Both Steelers Games Before Halloween

The six division games are spread oddly. Pittsburgh comes to Cleveland in Week 4 and Cleveland travels there in Week 8, so the oldest rivalry on the schedule is finished before November. Nothing is left to settle between these two in December.

Baltimore is the opposite, Week 6 at home and Week 16 away, more than two months apart. Cincinnati fills the closing stretch, at Huntington Bank Field in Week 13 and in Ohio’s other stadium for the Week 18 finale.

Eight home dates and nine road trips make up the year, with the bye landing in Week 11, later than most. Cleveland plays ten games before the break and seven after it.

Huntington Bank Field and Browns History

Home is Huntington Bank Field on the Lake Erie shoreline, an open air stadium holding 67,431. Wind off the lake is part of the venue’s reputation in December, and the ground sits within walking distance of downtown Cleveland.

The trophy history is older than most clubs and stops early. Cleveland won four NFL championships, the last in 1964, and four more titles in the All America Football Conference before that. The franchise has never played in a Super Bowl.
