The Kansas City Chiefs schedule 2026 opens on a Monday night. Kansas City hosts the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday, September 14 at 8:15 PM ET on ESPN and ABC, the club’s first Week 1 Monday game since September 13, 2010.
Two things make this season different. Patrick Mahomes returns from December ACL and LCL surgery, cleared for training camp in August. And the schedule is unforgiving: nine of the 17 opponents made the 2025 playoffs, six games fall in prime time, and all nine road trips leave the Central time zone.

Kansas City finishes with both remaining AFC West games, at the Chargers then home to the Raiders, and the league left both open. Week 17 is set just after Week 15, and Week 18 once Week 17 ends, with two Saturday windows and the rest on Sunday. Sunday afternoon kickoffs can also move under flexible scheduling from Week 5 on, so treat the 1:00 PM and 4:25 PM slots as provisional.
Chiefs Preseason Schedule 2026
Kansas City opens the 2026 NFL preseason at home against the Rams in the annual Chiefs Charity Game, then closes at home as well. KSHB 41 is the flagship carrier, feeding a regional network of 14 affiliate stations from Wichita and Topeka out to St. Louis, Omaha and Tulsa.

NFL.com lists the August 15 opener as an NFL Network game while chiefs.com lists KSHB 41, most likely a national pickup of the local feed. In-market fans can stream all three free on the Chiefs app. Seattle appears twice in three weeks, at Arrowhead on August 28 and hosting Kansas City in Week 7.

Five networks carry Kansas City games this season. CBS has the largest share, which is normal for an AFC team, but the Chiefs draw more national windows than most: the club says it will be featured in at least 10 nationally televised games.

Three things to know:
- The season starts with two straight prime time home games. Denver on Monday Night Football in Week 1, then Indianapolis on Sunday night in Week 2.
- The Week 13 Thursday Night Football game streams on Prime Video, with a local over the air simulcast on KSHB 41 in Kansas City. It is the only Chiefs game on Prime this year.
- The Thanksgiving game is on NBC, not the usual CBS or FOX holiday slot. It is the night cap of the Thanksgiving tripleheader, after Bears at Lions on CBS and Eagles at Cowboys on FOX.

All nine road games leave the Central zone. Four go to Pacific time, at Las Vegas, at Seattle, at the Rams and at the Chargers, and one to Mountain time at Denver. Two of those Pacific trips are night games that finish after midnight in the East.
Arizona viewers, one exception applies. Arizona skips daylight saving time, so the Mountain column is wrong for most of the early season. Through Week 7, subtract three hours from Eastern instead of two. Daylight saving ends on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and from Week 8 the Mountain column is correct. That matters most for the Cardinals visit to Arrowhead on November 22, which is a straight 11:00 AM start in Phoenix.

Patrick Mahomes Returns From ACL Surgery
Mahomes tore the ACL and LCL in his knee during the Week 15 loss to the Chargers in December 2025 and had surgery shortly after. In August 2026 the Chiefs cleared him to take part fully in training camp, and he has said his goal is Week 1 with no restrictions.
The club backed him anyway. On June 10 Kansas City added two years, taking the deal to 504.75 million dollars through 2033, the first NFL contract valued above half a billion. It also hedged, trading a 2027 sixth round pick to the Jets in March for Justin Fields, the most experienced backup Mahomes has had.
Arrowhead Stadium Gets Its Name Back in 2026
The building is called Arrowhead Stadium again. On August 5, 2026 the Chiefs and G.E.H.A jointly announced that the GEHA Field prefix, in place since the 2021 naming rights deal, is dropped from this season. G.E.H.A stays on as a club partner and continues to back the Chiefs Military Mission and the Salute to Service game.
Arrowhead opened in 1972 and seats 73,426. Only Soldier Field and Lambeau Field are older, making it the third oldest stadium in the NFL. It had a busy summer as a 2026 FIFA World Cup venue, hosting six matches including a Round of 32 tie and a quarterfinal, and it earned LEED Gold certification in May.
It is also on a clock. The Jackson County lease runs to January 2031, and the Chiefs move to a 3 billion dollar domed stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas, for the 2031 season, holding roughly 70,000 under a translucent ETFE roof. That makes 2026 one of five seasons left at Arrowhead.
When Is the Chiefs Bye Week in 2026?
Week 5, the weekend of October 11. Only Kansas City and Carolina get that slot, the earliest bye the league assigns in 2026, and it arrives after just four games. The Chiefs then play 13 straight weeks without a break, including Thanksgiving at Buffalo and back to back Thursday nights in Weeks 12 and 13. No team is on bye in Week 12. Chiefs 2026 Coaching Staff and Key Players
Andy Reid enters his 14th season after the first losing record of his tenure. The 6-11 finish in 2025 ended 10 straight playoff trips, nine consecutive AFC West titles and three straight Super Bowl appearances.
One change on the staff:
- Eric Bieniemy was hired as offensive coordinator on January 23, 2026, a second stint after running the offense from 2018 to 2022.
- Steve Spagnuolo begins an eighth season as defensive coordinator. He is the only coordinator in NFL history with four Super Bowl rings and the only one to win with two franchises.
- Dave Toub continues as assistant head coach and special teams coordinator.
Reid sits fourth on the all time wins list with 307 including the playoffs, and he is the first coach to become the winningest in franchise history at two clubs. Those wins include three of the four Super Bowls in club history, LIV, LVII and LVIII, alongside Super Bowl IV from the 1969 season.
The roster turned over more than usual. Travis Kelce re-signed in March for a 14th season. Kenneth Walker III arrived as the marquee free agent signing after a Super Bowl LX MVP year, fixing a run game that ranked 25th in 2025. The secondary was rebuilt after Trent McDuffie was traded to the Rams for four picks, with Mansoor Delane drafted sixth overall.

With only eight home dates, the two Monday night games are the hardest tickets: Denver in Week 1 and New England in Week 15. Hold off on the Week 18 finale until its date is set after Week 17.
