Two dates remain open. Week 16 against the Washington Commanders is one of four games the league held for its Saturday window, so it lands on December 26, 27 or 28. Week 18 against the Chicago Bears is January 9 or 10, set only after Week 17 finishes on January 4.
The rhythm of the year is lopsided. Five games, then an early bye, then twelve straight weeks with no break. Division games split cleanly: Green Bay and Chicago inside the first ten weeks, Detroit twice after that.

Vikings Preseason Results 2026
The preseason is over. Minnesota finished 1-2, winning the opener at MetLife Stadium and losing both games that followed.

The scores mattered less than the roster work behind them. Murray had already been named the starter before the opener, so the three games were about the back end of the 53. Starters sat in Denver. McCarthy turned an ankle against Baltimore and missed the finale, but the club called it day to day with no long term concern.

The Vikings Play in Mexico for the First Time
Week 11 separates this season from every other one in franchise history. On November 22 the Vikings meet the San Francisco 49ers at Estadio Banorte, the renamed Estadio Azteca, and Minnesota has never played in Mexico before.
It counts as a road game. San Francisco is the designated home team, which is why Minnesota keeps all nine of its own dates at U.S. Bank Stadium and still lands on 9 and 8. The venue sits about 7,200 feet up, roughly 1,900 feet higher than Denver and the highest ground any NFL team plays on.
Two personal angles sharpen it. This is the club’s third International Series game in two seasons, after Dublin and London in 2025. And receiver Jauan Jennings, signed from San Francisco this offseason after six years there, meets his old team at altitude in a neutral stadium.
The surrounding schedule is kind. Minnesota travels to Green Bay the week before, so it is two road trips back to back, then returns home for Atlanta and Carolina. The Falcons visit under Kevin Stefanski, hired in Atlanta in January after Cleveland let him go, and the Vikings offensive coordinator in 2019.
When is the Vikings Bye Week in 2026?
Week 6, the weekend of October 18. That is the third season in a row Minnesota has drawn a Week 6 bye, and it is early. League wide, byes run from Week 5 to Week 14, with none in Week 12 because of Thanksgiving.
Five games come before the break and twelve after it. Once the team returns on October 25 it plays every week to the finish. One soft landing is built in: the Thursday night game at New England is followed by ten days off before Detroit visits in Week 15, a mini bye in the middle of December. That New England trip is also a measuring stick, since the Patriots reached Super Bowl LX last season and lost it to Seattle.

Vikings 2026 Roster and Coaching Staff
- Kyler Murray starts. O’Connell named him on August 11, after 10 days of camp practices. Murray signed a one year deal in March following seven seasons and 87 starts in Arizona, which drafted him first overall in 2019. He was voted a team captain on September 3.
- J.J. McCarthy is the backup, Carson Wentz is third. McCarthy started 10 games in 2025 and the team went 6-4 in them. O’Connell was explicit that the decision does not change McCarthy’s place in the long term plan.
- The staff is unchanged. Kevin O’Connell enters his fifth season and was AP Coach of the Year for 2024. Wes Phillips runs the offense, Brian Flores the defense after signing an extension in January. Nolan Teasley, hired in June, built his first roster as general manager.
- Justin Jefferson headlines the offense alongside Jordan Addison, Jauan Jennings and tight end T.J. Hockenson, with Aaron Jones Sr. and Jordan Mason in the backfield. Jefferson entered camp healthy for the first time in three years.
- Roster turnover was real. Safety Harrison Smith was released after 14 seasons, punter Johnny Hekker lost his job to rookie Brett Thorson, and Adam Thielen and C.J. Ham retired. Jamal Adams went on injured reserve on August 17 and is out for the season.
The NFC North was the tightest division in football last year. Chicago won it at 11-6 and closes the season at U.S. Bank Stadium in Week 18. Green Bay finished 9-7-1. Minnesota and Detroit both went 9-8, with the Vikings taking third on a head to head sweep of the Lions.
For the record books: Minnesota has won 21 division titles, the most of any current NFC North club, and has reached four Super Bowls without winning one. Those losses came in Super Bowl IV, VIII, IX and XI, which ties Buffalo for the most by a franchise that has never lifted the trophy.
