Jeff Hafley opened his first season as head coach in Las Vegas with Willis under center, and the camp reports out of the Baptist Health Training Complex were about rhythm rather than arm talent: full-speed reps, the ball coming out at the top of the drop, on time. Cornerback DJ Turner spent the month lined up across from Ja'Marr Chase, which receivers coach Troy Walters described as iron sharpening iron in both directions.

Cincinnati also added Dexter Lawrence II inside, and the effect showed up in other people's reps. Defensive end Myles Murphy said the tackle knows exactly how to play the position because he understands where edge rushers are going. Bengals vs Dolphins is a decent first test of whether any of that survives contact with a real opponent.

Cincinnati is off in Week 6, which changes how a team treats a Sunday. There is no next week to save anybody for.
